The
Santa Barbara Museum of Art
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, a privately funded not-for-profit
institution, is dedicated to excellence in collecting, preserving,
exhibiting and interpreting works of art from various cultures and
periods to enhance the quality of life of its visitors and community.
Through creative well-planned education, interpretation and outreach
programs, the Museum encourages all people to develop and increase
their understanding and appreciation of the visual arts, demonstrating
that art has a vital role in our community and in individual lives.
Santa
Barbara Museum of Natural History
Set in historic Mission Canyon, the Museum of Natural History is
one of the most beautiful small museums in the
United
States by virtue of its natural setting and gracious Spanish style
buildings and grounds. The Museum offers a close look at the story
of the region's birth, geology and minerals, native wildlife, rich
marine life and the culture of the Chumash Indians . Features include
a 72-foot blue whale skeleton, the region's only public planetarium
and observatory , a creek-side setting and a multicultural and science
gift shop.
The
Karpeles Manuscript Library preserves the largest private collection
of original Manuscripts in the world. The museum is open daily from
10 AM to 4 PM and all of the Karpeles Manuscript Library services
are free.
The
Sea Center
Visit the Sea Center on historic Steams Wharf, touch living marine
creatures, and take a peek through our window on the Santa Barbara
Channel. See up-close some of the creatures that live in the Santa
Barbara Channel in the numerous aquariums. There is even a life sized
whale skeleton suspended from the ceiling, spanning the interior of
the center.
Santa
Barbara Botanic Garden Located on 65 acres in historic Mission
Canyon, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden features over
1,000
species of rare and indigenous California plants, illustrating beautiful
representative habitats or landscape applications. Five and a half
miles of scenic trails take you through meadows and canyons, across
historic Mission Dam, and along ridge tops that offer sweeping views
of the California Islands.
The Santa Barbara Carriage and Western Arts Museum has assembled
a collection of about seventy-five vehicles as used by the early
pioneers. Initially directed by
Old
Spanish Days, the museum places several carriages in the Fiesta
Parade each August.

Located in
a a 1901 Southern Pacific depot, the Goleta Depot Railroad Museum
is dedicated to the history, technology, and adventure of railroading.
Special emphasis is placed on the railroad's contributions to local
history, on the Southern Pacific Railroad, and on the key historical
role of the railroad depot in rural community life across America.
